What delivery pipe is
Delivery pipe — sold as delivery pipe — is a flat-coiling pipe that lies flat when empty and rounds out under pressure. A long run rolls down to a compact coil one person can carry, which is the whole point.
Where it wins
- Irrigation that moves between plots through a season
- Pump set delivery where the run is laid and recovered repeatedly
- Anywhere storage space or transport is limited
- Temporary supply during construction or repair
Where rigid pipe wins
- Permanent buried mains, where HDPE fused joints last decades
- Suction lines, which collapse if not self-supporting
- Runs under vehicle traffic or crushing loads
- Long-term potable distribution
Getting a longer life from lay-flat pipe
Drain it before coiling, avoid dragging it over sharp stubble, and do not run it over with a tractor while pressurised. Keep the coil out of direct sun between seasons.
